Famous Masjids in India

Hazratbal Shrine, Srinagar
Literally means 'Majestic Place', the Hazratbal Shrine is a Muslim shrine in Srinagar. Situated on the left bank of the Dal Lake, this is considered to be Kashmir's holiest Muslim Shrine

Jama Masjid, Srinagar
situated in the heart of  Nowhatta in the middle of the old city of Srinagar, Jama Masjid of Srinagar is an important mosque and was built by Sultan Sikandar in 1400 AD.

Mubarak Mosque, Qadian
This mosque was opened by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad in 1882-1883. This was the first mosque of the Ahmadiyya Movement.

Jama Masjid, Delhi
This is one of the principal mosques of Old Delhi and was commissioned by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. This mosque is the largest and best known mosque (mosques) in India and is located on the Chawri Bazaar Road in Old Delhi.

Moti Masjid , Delhi
 Literally means 'Pearl Mosque' the Moti Masjid is a large, white marble mosque built by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb at the Red Fort complex in Delhi.

Tipu Sultan Mosque, Kolkata
This is one of Kolkata's most famous mosques. The Tipu Sultan  mosque is a relic of architectural and cultural heritage and people from all faiths are allowed to visit it and take pictures. This
mosque was constructed in 1832 by the youngest son of Tipu Sultan, Prince Ghulam Mohammed.

Charminar Masjid,Hyderabad
The Charminar is synonymous with the city of Hyderabad and was built in 1591 AD by Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah and is known for its beautiful Islamic style of architecture.

Mecca Masjid, Hyderabad
The Mecca Masjid is one of the oldest mosques in Hyderabad and the largest mosques in India. This mosque was commissioned by Mohammad Quli Qutb Shah who ordered bricks to be made from the soil brought from Mecca (the holiest site in Islam).

Cheraman Juma Masjid, Kodungallur
This mosque is located in Kodungallur, Kerala and describes itself as the oldest mosque in India.

Kazimar Big Mosque, Madurai
Located in the heart of the city of Madurai, this mosque was built by His Holiness Hazrat Kazi Syed Tajuddin (a descendant of Prophet Muhammad) who came from Oman during the 13th century.
