Yawm Al-Arafah (Day of Arafah) is the on which pilgrims gather on the mountain plain of ‘Arafah, praying and supplicating to the Lord.
It is a significant day that surpasses other days in virtue and merit, for both pilgrims and non-pilgrims, and is the day that precedes Eid Ul-Adha.
The day of Arafah is the day on which the religion of Islam was perfected and Allah’s Favour was completed…
Narrated Tariq bin Shihab:
A Jew said to `Umar رضي الله عنه, “O Chief of the Believers, if this verse:
‘This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favors upon you, and have chosen for you, Islam as your religion.’ (Surah Al-Ma’idah, Verse 3) had been revealed upon us, we would have taken that day as an `Id (festival) day.”
`Umar رضي الله عنه said, “I know definitely on what day this Verse was revealed; it was revealed on the day of `Arafat, on a Friday.”
[Sahih Bukhari: Book 96, Hadith 1]
It is also the day of forgiveness and freedom from the fire…
‘A’isha رضي الله عنها reported Allah’s Messenger ﷺ as saying:
There is no day when God sets free more servants from Hell than the Day of ‘Arafa. He draws near, then praises them to the angels, saying: What do these want?
[Sahih Muslim: Book 15, Hadith 492]
It is highly recommended to fast, for those who are not pilgrims to Hajj…
Allah’s Messenger ﷺ was asked about fasting on the day of ‘Arafa (9th of Dhu’I-Hijjah), whereupon he ﷺ said:
‘It expiates the sins of the preceding year and the coming year.’
[Extract from Sahih Muslim: Book 13, Hadith 253]
May Allah forgive us for our sins, and continue to forgive us, and may He also protect us from the temtations of Shaytaan
